When in the late 80s the revolution came and people were finally allowed to travel abroad, Jan Lhotský began to travel with his family to Italy. He was captivated by the many interesting places in this country particularly the volcanic Aeolian Islands north of Sicily. The night view of the frequent eruptions of the volcano Stromboli was just unforgettable for him. Since this time he has traveled across many countries in Europe and after the completion of his studies at the Masaryk University, he set off on a journey through Australia to New Zealand, where he lived, worked and traveled for eight months.
Later, he and his co-traveler Jan Michl spent a few weeks travelling through Thailand to Malaysia. On the island of Borneo they climbed its highest peak Gunung Kinabalu and spent several days in the jungle, where they got the chance to observe local wild animals. Destination of their another journey was the Indonesian islands of Java, Bali and Lombok, the local exotic temples and above all the active volcanoes. The most recent travel led to Israel and Jordan in the Middle East to explore the ancient rock city and the desert Wadi Rum.
Jan Lhotský sees himself as an occasional photographer who takes photographs, above all, when he gets to exotic or otherwise interesting areas. During his first travels he used cameras Nikon Coolpix 3700 and Panasonic DMC-FZ7, at present he uses Nikon D90 and for underwater photographs Panasonic DMC-FT1.
